Get Out of MySpace!

There’s a report going around that the blog service provider MySpace has dumped over 200,000 users for a number of different reasons including risque content, hate speech and objectionable profiles. They’re not too particularly worried it seems, they still have over 66 million users and 250,000 new users signing up each day! Whoa, that’s a lot of blogging… or something. I know they have to have a twinge of fear in dumping that many users at once, what if it creates a back lash and they end up with a mass exodus of people jumping ship for cooler places to blog.

My personal experience with MySpace was and still is very mixed, I think they have the ugliest templates on the ‘net with a wildly confusing interface and very little in the way of customizing “YourSpace” and tons of obtrusive advertising, but hey, to each their own! At one time I had to actually block all emails from MySpace while spam bots were running rampant, emailing members over and over and over again to request you add them to their “friends” list. Most of the mailings were from people either trying to see who could have the largest number of friends or companies using the site to send out spam advertisements.

    MySpace’s blogging platform sucks.

Myspace in itself sucks technically. The site was cheaply thrown together with shoddy code that is riddled with bugs.

Well apparently not all 66 million users are having bad experiences if they’re still there and more coming along. I have been in MySpace for around two years now and i have no objections, after all the service is getting better and more customizable by the week…

And the ads? well even in this space where i’m writing my opinion, this text area is surrounded by ads… so i don’t know what’s the big deal there. And i don’t see here any options to include uploading my videos nor CSS options…

I think everybody should give MySpace a try, the site is really a place for friends.

I too have a page on MySpace and the thing that turned me off the most was the email spam and all the “add me” spam that I kept getting, often in ways that you were being tricked into clicking a link saying that you were going to view the comment or whatever when it was actually a confirmation to add them to your friends list. Totally annoying. Why do people want to trick you into adding them to your friends list, that’s just all kinds of wrong!

I wonder if MySpace will ever decide to share advertising revenues with the bloggers like the owners of has done. heh Which, by the way is a pretty decent blogging platform.

Yeah, I agree, everyone should give MySpace a shot, but, no matter what though, some people just won’t like it.
